Google Idol – Good For a Giggle!
Author: Amy Armitage
Back in March this year when I was in Australia I picked up the newspaper and saw an article on a local guy Ben Petro from my home town Brisbane who had just created the site GoogleIdol.
I sent him an email and before long we had Ben set up on a Lunarpages Dedicated Server
The success of his site has been phenomenal!
I am really close to my brother Brett Collery (he’s famous) and I’d been telling him all about Ben and the site, how much of a laugh it was etc. Anyway, I went back to California and Ben and I became fast friends, chatting via email several times daily and delighting in the fast growing success of GoogleIdol and of course the branding that resulted for Lunarpages. So my brother (the amazingly talented one) and I were speaking on the phone and his neighbors (who I’m also good mates with) had been over that night having a few good Aussie beers (NOT Fosters! It’s GROSS *spit pfft blah*) and they got to talking bout Amy in America and this cool site….
Now considering we came from the same city (population 1,810,943) it’s not likely that an Aussie girl in California and a guy in Brisbane would be linked.. but thanks to that whole six degrees of separation it turns out we were.
So Ben’s aunt and uncle are actually neighbors of my brother (who was nominated for a Helpman Award against Tom Waits and Mel Brooks)
Kinda spooky huh? Anyway as Molly Meldrum would say do yourself a favor and check out Google Idol!

That is soooo cool! I like the fake Nuns that won. I voted for Beckah and Friends in another contest. Telling my teenage sons about the site.
