Webmaster Jam Session – WoW

Author: Amy Armitage

CoffeeCup know how to turn it on. Chad and I arrived in Dallas on Wednesday night we walked out of the terminal and J Cornelius was there to meet us right on time. We were on our way to the Adam’s Mark Hotel and I was sooooooo excited to see the CoffeeCup Crew again.

J Cornelius

The phone rang several times as we traveled to our destination.. It was Nick Longo “Where are you guys?”

J responded “About 30 minutes away”

It rang again 2 minutes later “How far now?”

I took the phone from J “Maybe 20 minutes”.

And again in under 5 minutes “I’m bored. When are you getting here?”

“Soooooon..”

We got to the hotel and as we pulled up I saw Nick waiting outside with two older women and a man. When I asked J who they were he said “OH Nick’s Mom and Aunt and uncle. This is a real family affair”.

Awwwwwww nice… He travels with his mother!

I jumped out of the car all stoked and ran up to Nick big cuddles and greetings, turned to the woman held out my hand and gave her my greatest “impress the mother smile” and introduced myself and told how thrilled I was to meet her and all those niceties you say (and of course mean). She introduced herself as Mrs Nash and we lit up a ciggie and bonded.

Nick looked at me kinda gobsmacked and J stood there with an amused smile as I proceeded to ramble. Something wasn’t right.

So yeah.. they were random strangers. I’d been in Dallas less than an hour and already I’d been burned twice by those caffeine fiends.

Ok.. I get it. That’s how this conference is going to be.

I could tell you about the awesome sessions and how much everyone learned, but you can read that all over the web. The people were the highlight of this conference for me.

We all know CoffeeCup run a super slick operation, but damn they do really think of everything. I mean EVERY detail is well thought out, anticipated and handled with class.

Our suites were amazing and Starbucks was IN THE HOTEL!!! So I was on a coffee high all day. At one point I was trying to convince Suzanne and Jennifer to take espresso shots with me and heard the old “We think you’ve had enough caffeine Amy” speech.

Jennifer & Suzanne

Chad

Every night we were invited to attend a Speaker’s Dinner and the food was fantasmagorical. I was fortunate enough to be seated beside Nick (If he hasn’t already told you, he is devastatingly handsome – see pic below) so the conversation was colorful to say the least and I had a total blast.

Nick Longo

Amy (I’m NOT BORED) & Nick

Awwwww…

The Man Of Many Hats

They made me leave my puter and drink alcohol..

To my left on the second evening was Trevor Dodd. Talk about a SUPER nice guy. His flash presentation was dynamic and informative and his conversation genuine and enlightening. I look forward to seeing him again.

Trevor Dodd

Our Development Manager Kaanon was chatting with us some months ago, telling us about this AWESOME guy Eric Meyer who was speaking at this jam Session in Dallas…

Kaanon is a COOL Kat

I innocently asked “What’s it called?”

He replied “Webmaster Jam Session“..

My ego was crushed. Kaanon hadn’t noticed my name when browsing the speaker’s list..

*sigh

So Chad hit up Eric Meyer for a copy of his book so we could buy it and get it signed for Kaanon.

Eric Meyer What showgirls? Honey I swear I was presenting at a conference”

But he was busy ummmm… Oh that’s right. He didn’t have any books. That’s it.

I heard he was some kinda CSS guru. I thought CSS meant “Cansei de Ser Sexy”, which is Portuguese and means: I’m tired of being sexy

That didn’t go down well when I introduced myself to him and started blathering bout how I too am sick of being a sex symbol for web hosting… [insert hair flick] *wink

He was so accommodating and lovely. When I asked him to write something special for our Kaanon he sat down at the dinner table, pen in hand and protectively cradled his arm around the menu as he was writing (just like back in the day when you’re trying to stop little Johnny from peaking at your work), and he proceeded to write a message that literally resulted in Kaanon “SQEALING LIKE A GIRL” when Chad and I gave it to him on Monday. Really.. he screamed like a CSS groupie. Thank you Eric!

OMG SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?

I got the chance to chat with James Craig on Saturday night after dinner.

James Craig

He presented at the final session along with Nick, Andy (wow what a lovely guy) and Garrett and guess what they handed out to the attendees? SHOTS & BEEEEEEEEERS!!!!! I happened to get a heads up about this lil bonus so of course Chad and I made a point of sitting up front dead center. It was SO great to listen to a session with a Corona in hand. Anyway I digress. When I was watching James it occurred to me that he is most likely suited for a career in entertainment. The entire group of speakers had so much to offer and I felt at ease in their company:

Caleb from Microsoft (Loads of fun!)

Andy Budd & Derek Featherstone

Andrey Smagin, Darrin Ward & John Fallon

Garrett, Trevor, Andy, Nick & Ethan

I guess I should cover my presentation. John Fallon was kind enough to agree to speak with me… be my special guest star.. my backup dancer.. and he was awesome. Sadly, at the same time we appeared the infamously gorgeous Cameron Moll (See below) was speaking.. and we ended up being the second rate party that nobody wanted to go to :(

Cameron Moll – Yes ladies.. I was in his presence ;)

I had such a fun time and I learned a bunch. Thank you CoffeeCup for putting on such a super event!

XXXXXXXXXX
