Find Your Niche With Your Web Site

Author: Mitch Keeler

Why are you here?

No matter what type of Web site you are setting up and no matter who you are, when I visit your Web site I want one simple question answered. Why am I here? If I can not figure that out within ten seconds of being at the Web site, I am not going to be coming back. You go to Lunarpages for Web hosting, that one is easy. You go to Google for searching, easy as well.

No Web site can do everything. If they do try to do everything, it is divided up into teams or sections. If I visit your Web site and all I see is twelve different areas of content about twelve different topics you are not going to be successful. Serve a purpose. You can not host a Web site and become successful if you are not doing this.

Now if my Uncle Al wants to have a Web site for his fishing photos – that is fine as well. Uncle Al probably doesn’t want to make it on Digg or want any other sort of press for his work. There is a place for that as well. These Web sites and these people know they are not going to be the next Yahoo by posting pictures of the grand children.

So that brings me back to what I said in the beginning, answer my question and I will keep coming back. Serve a purpose for me, and you have hooked yourself a visitor. If you can not do either of those, then you will just be one more person making noise out there on the World Wide Web.
