SPAM SPAM SPAM, I can’t stand it

5 December, 2006 - Jabber

Author: Keith Duncan

Did i pick the wrong email address to use or was it all of those free gifts I signed up for that did it? Either way, I am getting hit with about 1500 spam emails daily and that doesn’t include what the filters have turned away.

My Server Guru has setup Mail Foundry and I will be happy when I can get all of my emails running through it, but in the meantime…

Ever get that annoying email where some wife of a prince from some unknown nation has a bizillion dollars hidden away and can’t get to it without your good help? All they want you to do is open a checking acct, put your money in it and give them access to it. Then they will deposit those bizzillions to your account. You get to keep some and give them back the rest.

Is there anyone in the world dumb enough to fall for that? YES THERE IS!!!

A friend of my wife’s told her in confidence about how she and her husband were going to get rich soon and she would be quitting her job. They had already opened the account and was aobut to drop a few thousand in it when she fessed up.

After my wife (Sherri) got up off the floor from laughter, she told her about it being a scam but the friend didn’t believe it. So, I saved a few variations of the same email, sent them to her and then she got a clue…

And, speaking of scams, one of my ex-employees fell for a phishing email that wiped out her entire savings, at the same time we were publishing an article on phishing. Kind of bad when they don’t read their own magazine, but get this, she had read the article before it went to press and still fell for it. We helped her out until she was able to recover everything through the banks but DANG!!! think before typing sometimes people.

Ok, getting off the age-old soapbox and headed home.
