I am a huge fan of the Stephen Colbert report and today I was doing some searching and I found a post by SEOMOZ about a new “word” from stephen colbert. Thanks for the inspiration Rand!
Recently Microsoft put out a call to pay wiki editors to modify articles on microsoft products to be writen in a more favorable tone, hence wikilobbying.
I watched the video and I completely agreed on the points that stephen made.
1) Wikipedia – The encyclopedia where you can be an authority, even if you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.
2) When Wikipedia becomes our most trusted reference source, reality is just what the majority agrees upon.
3) When Wikipedia becomes our most trusted reference source, reality is just what the majority agrees upon.

We should all keep an eye on wikipedia and see who the first person is to modify the “reality” entry. Colbert said he’d pay them $5. ;)

There is a pretty cool post on the Compete.com blog today showing the traffic to the specific Wikipedia pages before and after Colbert mentions them in his show. It’s interesting to see exactly how much influence he has. Check out the post: http://blog.compete.com/2007/02/16/colbert-report-wikipedia/
