WordPress 2.2 Released

All you content management system junkies have something to celebrate today. WordPress 2.2 has been released – and it does have some impressive new features worth talking about.

On behalf of the entire WordPress team, I’m proud and excited to announce the immediate availability of version 2.2 “Getz” for download. This version includes a number of new features, most notably Widgets integration, and over two hundred bug fixes. It’s named in honor of tenor saxophonist Stan Getz.

Some of the new features and upgrades include:

• WordPress Widgets
• Full Atom Support
• Infinite Comment Stream
• Speed Optimizations

That is only scratching the surface. One of the features I am most excited about seeing is the fact that they will now protect you from activating a plugin or editing a file that will break your blog. I might wait a while till all my favorite plugins are upgraded (if need be) before going through the fun of a WordPress upgrade. I look forward to playing around with this new release though.
