The Halloween Roundup

by Tiara Rea

So October is possibly the coolest month ever created, not simply because it was my birthday month but because of Halloween-time! For us Southern Californians, that meant Disneyland was decked out for the celebration, Knott’s Berry Farm had a terrifying addition, and our Lunarpages office looks like a cemetery. Seriously, there are rats and skulls and snakes and graves everywhere. And I couldn’t be happier! Halloween is such a fun time, mostly because grown-ups get to play dress up. I love dressing in costumes and no, I’m not one of those girls who wears the low-cut, short-skirtted version of innocent fairy tale girls. I will be, of course, going as Severus Snape from Harry Potter.

That’s right, I went there.

Okay, I’m honestly no expert on Halloween stuff, considering I could get scared if you came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder at work (our HR Manager does it aaaall the time), but still, I thought it would be nice to share the 5 best parts of Halloween for me!

#5 – Hitchcock movies

I’m a huge fan of Alfred’s work (I call him Alfred, because obviously we were so close), and AMC and TMC tend to have marathons on around this time of year. In fact, I think I watched one a couple weekends ago. It was nice to get to see Rear Window again and I’m always a fan of Vertigo, The Birds, and even Psycho. Can’t get better than curling up on the couch and watching something that’s psychologically thrilling.

#4 – Ghost Hunters: Live!

Oh yes, I’m one of those fans who spends the night in front of the TV if I’m not going out, glued to Ghost Hunters marathons on Sci-Fi. One of the cool new traditions I’ve come to enjoy is the live Ghost Hunters episode, in which you get to attend a full investigation with Grant and Jason.

It’s fun because it’s a long process but that leaves plenty of time to grab popcorn and candy and chill with friends.

#3 – Candy!!!!!!!!!

Bad news – I’m on a diet this Halloween. Okay, that’s honestly good news, except that I will definitely miss shoving so much chocolate in my face that I get a sugar rush and crawl the walls with adrenaline. But candy has always been a great part of the holiday for me. Especially candy corn. Ugh, that stuff always looks so good but tastes so bad…

#2 – Disneyland’s Halloween Time

As I mentioned, Disneyland kind of goes all out for the holiday, and as my first Disneyland experience was spent seeing Halloween Time several years ago, I appreciate it more than some. My special favorite activity at Disneyland is getting to ride the Haunted Mansion, which is decked out as The Nightmare Before Christmas – it’s worth seeing! Then again, I have an Annual Pass, so I can go whenever I want. ;)

#1 – Dressing Up!!!!!

Any excuse to wear my Hogwarts School Robe and dye my hair black and wave around my wand (haha, yes I do own a wand), honestly.
