we had this question in a math class, and i won a prize for it.
the answer is definately 10,990

7 girls x 2 legs = 14 girl legs
343 cats x 4 legs = 1372 cat legs (49 big cats per girl, 4 legs each)
2401 kittens x 4 legs = 9604 kittens legs (multiply big cats by seven to get how many kittens, 4 legs each)
14 girl legs + 1372 cat legs + 9604 kittens legs = 10,990 legs
with the bus driver it's 10, 992, but no one said anything about a driver.

There are several ways to solve this, but here's what worked for me

It's easier if you figure out how many cats there are per bag first and not just just to skip multiplying by 7's and 4's first 9 as I first thought)

we know there are 7 kittens+1 big cat = 8 cats per family
there are 7 families in each backpack....7x8 = 56 cats per backpack (not 49 as one might think...you leave out the big cats that way)
and there are 7 backpacks and 7 girls = 49 X 56 =2744 total cats
each cat has 4 legs=2744X4 = 10976 total cat legs
each girl has 2 legs and there are 7 girls = 14 girl legs

14 girl legs + 10976 cat legs = 10990 total legs

I got the answer of 10,990 but how do you type that in the password.....10,990 or Ten Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety or can anyone tell me the exact way to type it in the password.....do you leave spaces inbetween or not? only numbers? Capital letters on the words? I have tired everyway and it won't work.

7*4=28 <------------- little cat
(28+(((7*4)*7)) <--- this is how much per bag = 224
(224*7) = 1568 <--- there are 7 bags
1568+2 = 1570 <--- girl have 2 legs
1570*7 <------------ there are 7 girls

Therefore answer is 10990

7 girls with 7 backpacks = 49 backpacks

49 backpacks with 7 cats = 343 big cats

each big cat has 7 litten cats = 343x7=2401

(7x2) + (343x4) + (2401x4)

14 + 1372 + 9604 = 10990legs in the bus! This is correct and opened the excel sheet
