Easier Ways to Watermark Your Images

By Mitch “Watermarked” Keeler

Watermarking is the process of embedding information or an image over another image to usually prevent copying.  There are a lot of ways to get it done actually, however I am just going to focus on the picture on picture way of doing things.

Here is an example of a photo with a watermark…

So why would you want to add a watermark to your images or graphics?

Some might call it the poor man’s way of doing copyright protection on images you do not want to have stolen.  Others might say it is a neat way to get your name and brand out there on anything that you do (the marketing side of me likes the second definition a ‘bit better).

There are a few tools that will help you watermark your images for free.  Here are the two that I like the most:

  • PicMarkr – This one will work with a number of different image sources.  You can grab pictures from your Flickr, Facebook, Picasa, or your PC.  You can also add image or text watermarking.
  • Free Watermark Tool – This tool is another great watermarker that I have covered before.  Still a simple way to add a watermark to your picture.  It gets two thumbs up from me!
  • BiggerBids Watermarking Tool – Here you have another tool that allows you to watermark one image at a time.

Now this might not be something everybody wants to do, however if you have images you really want to protect – these two free tools and the entire watermarking process can be a very valuable thing to check into.  Have any other watermarking tool suggestions?

Is watermarking effective all the time or can it be removed by using a Photoshop type program? This appears to be a great idea.
