How to Save a Trace Route to a .txt File
When it comes to running a trace route, some people become confused on how you get that trace route from your command prompt window to your uber-friendly support team. The easiest method would be to save the trace route as a .txt file, so you could copy the data, and paste it in your e-mail or help desk ticket.
It is all pretty simple:
- Go to Start > Run…
- Enter cmd and click OK.
- At the prompt, type tracert yourdomainname > yourfilename.txt and hit enter.
After it is complete, the file is saved to:
Vista - \Users\yourpcusername\yourfilename.txt
XP - \Documents and Settings\yourpcusername\yourfilename.txt
Now all you have to do is find the file, open it up, and copy the trace route from the .txt file to your e-mail to the support team or into your help desk ticket. You can seen an example of the process being done in less than a minute here:

I was allowed to start, to hold the language study study concurrently, and to see it happily.
Thank you.

Just wanted to explain the process for Mac clients.
Launch Terminal (found in Applications/Utilities)
Type the command > traceroute -IS yourdomainname.com
Hilight the information.
Go to the Terminal Menu -> Services – > Messaging – > New Email with Selection
Here’s a movie of the process..
